We had plenty of time for a long walk before we leaped back to Markus Sittikus. It had just begun to get darker.
We decided to start from the palace gardens of Mirabell Schloss.
The flying horse and relaxed unicorn statues were a delight.
The palace is right in the center of the city and has some massive gardens.
In summers they bloom with kaleidoscopic flowers.
And then arrived at the old town of Salzburg with narrow lanes full of light and stone streets.
Which opened up to Stern Brau, which means Star brewery.
Usually, the most famous breweries are huddled up into this place.
But on Christmas eve, this little cove of a place got us into a fancy christmas state.
With red hangings…
…and fairy wings!
Christmas in Salzburg is supposed to be one of the most famous in Europe. The christmas markets which shut in most parts of the continent by 23rd December, remain open until the 27th December in Salzburg.
Stern Brau holds one of the smaller markets during the day in these huts.
Since it was Christmas eve, most restaurants were shut so we opted to get our dinner at the Chinese restaurant Lili.
Ordering large portions of chicken and rice. Starting with mini rolls.
After a hearty dinner, we rushed along with all of Salzburg to the midnight mass at the Salzburg Cathedral.
It shone like a gem in the night sky.
