We woke up to crisp white mountains and trinklets of snow on the tree. Best weather to dunk your biscuits in hot tea.
There is a certain comfort in putting on your fuzzy socks and sitting by the snowflakes, listening to the sound of silence around you. Islands might be our favorite holidays but mountains are for serendipity.
We were done with being lazy, chugging wine, playing hours of indoor games and being smitten by the snow. It was time for some action and the real reason we were visiting Black Forest in winter.
It is the closest ski region to Frankfurt in Germany. Flocks of ski lovers parachute at Feldburg and indulge in ski lifts, snowboarding and schooling.
There are a lot of ski gear rental shops around for everything from helmets to glasses, jackets, pants, shoes and ski boards. The further up you go, the cheaper you can rent them for. These rentals also offer all day ski courses for beginners.
The boots are custom made for Hulk, but everyone can fit into them. Though it takes a bit of awkward movements around for a while, you settle in just fine within no time.
As first timers, we opted out of the course and took on the challenge head on.
Starting with the flat, small slope areas.
The weather became foggier and it started to get dark. We had been skiing all day without realizing how fast time had passed. After a quick bite and gulping coffee cups in the nearby cafes, we headed back to the hotel.
Since Black Forest preaches wellness highly, the visitors must practice. Our hotel had the sauna area free for the evening. We just carried some candles to add to the warmth and to the whiffs of eucalyptus.
