Last year we arrived in Germany just in time for Christmas, having missed Oktoberfest by a couple of months. So, this year we were determined to go.
The biggest beer festival in the world – Oktoberfest in Munich slays a million visitors every year.
Some camp, some Airbnb and some take up the hotels. Not a single spot in town goes unbooked.
We decided to camp at Wiesn, specially set up for the festival next to Munich’s horse farm.
Heading out to where all of Munich and rest of the world was without wasting much time.
We crossed the horse farm on our way to the festival. These guys are trained for the Olympics and the stables also have horse riding lessons – incase you are looking to join.

We made it on the last weekend of Oktoberfest dates which was actually the first weekend of October. In Munich the beer festival begins in mid september.
Whoever said only the German laws were weird!
Boys and girls don lederhosen & dirndls – the single most acceptable fashion standard for over half a month.
With equally fashionable braids & hairdos.
The important thing about dirndls is that it has a bow which indicates the status of a girl.
A bow on the left means single and ready to mingle. A bow on the right means taken. A bow tied at the back means a widow or waitress and a bow centre front means a virgin.
Not that the men will notice your bow after a couple of Maß (a litre of Beer). Doesn’t matter where you tie it!
On our way we met bubbles, narrow lanes and beautiful statues of Munich.
When we finally arrived, we knew what all the fuss is about.
No one does a beer festival anywhere in the world as grand as this one. The music, the frivolities, all the fun and beer of course – enjoyed by millions of Germans and tourists.
Though you got to book your table early on in the year. That is half the fun. Else you will find yourself queuing up most of the time.
There are about 14 tents and each tent has its own charm – some have a family atmosphere, some are flirty, some playing old German songs while some are too classy.
Take your pick wisely.
And don’t forget to load up pretzels, fish, chicken and water in between all theMaßkrugs.
Or you will definitely be sick at the end of the day.
Even though the beer at Oktoberfest is as fresh as can be, amazingly light and nowhere will you ever be able to find it except here. It is exclusively brewed for the festival.
Our favourite was the Hofbrauhaus beer, a very popular beer house in Munich.
Hofbrauhaus is also located in the heart of Munich. Where you find a similar atmosphere all year round as in Oktoberfest.
It was Hitler’s favourite place and he held several meetings with the boys here.
For those who are not big beer sippers, there are lots of cocktail bars outside the tents. Where the other half of fun lies!
With giant wheels, popcorn carts and souvenir shops, this place has endless things to do.
You will never know when the day races to an end and the lights begin twinkling – keeping the festival alive till late in the night.
We had a really great time and dragged ourselves back to the camp where the after party was just starting.
Oktoberfest is a feast in true sense.
